Pastor John has been a Christ-follower for 37 years.
He has been married to his wife Julie for 29 years they have 5 children and 4 grandchildren.

Children from oldest to youngest: Caleb Boss married to Elizabeth Roberts Boss (Caleb is the Associate Pastor to Students at Mexia Baptist Church in Monroeville, Alabama and his wife Elizabeth is a teacher at Monroe Intermediate School and they have 3 children, David, Emily, & Henry.  Hannah Boss Smith works at Chic-fil-A Ross Clarke Circle, Dothan, Alabama and she has one son, Christopher Blake Champion. Hannah is married to Kyle Smith. Pastor John and Julie have three children at home, Micah (14), Isaac (11), Lydia (9). These 3 attend Jackson Academy.

Pastor John is originally from Chicago, Illinois but grew up in Grand Isle, Louisiana from the age of 10. His wife Julia Vincent Boss is originally from Lower Michigan but grew up in Fort Payne, Alabama from age 3. 

Pastor John has been our pastor at Forest Avenue Baptist Church since August 2021.

Pastor John has a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from the Baptist College of Florida in Graceville, Florida. He also has extensive hours earned at Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, Alabama in the study of Behavioral Science. He attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with  a study in Master's of Divinity in Church Leadership.

Pastor John has served in gospel ministry for over 29 years, serving churches in Alabama, Florida, and Louisiana. 

He has served faithfully in local Southern Baptist work wherever he has lived, leading in numerous areas in Associational ministry including: Moderator, Vice-moderator, Evangelism, Missions, Resort Missions, Disaster Relief, and Discipleship Training totaling over 25 years of Baptist Association volunteer involvement. Currently serving as Moderator for the Clarke Baptist Association.

He also had the blessing to serve at the State Convention level as a board member of the Louisiana Baptist Convention in the areas of property and missions.

He has extensive experience in disaster relief, thrift store ministry, sports ministry, evangelism training, and has led numerous mission trips both in the U.S. and Southeast Asia.

Before moving back to Alabama in 2016 Pastor John served has a NAMB church planter in Southeast Louisiana.
